Brett Evans, our youngest agent at Coldwell Banker Supercity Realty and the Mariana Cowan Home Selling System, started out in the real estate industry at just 20 years old. What years he lacks in experience, Brett makes up for in his constant eagerness to learn. Since starting out with the company about a year and a half ago, Brett has been very successful in adjusting to the life of an agent and welcomes any challenge that comes his way with open arms.
What made you decided that real estate was the career path you wanted to pursue?
I was first introduced to the business of real estate at a very young age by my uncle who bought and flipped houses as a hobby/side job. This became an immediate interest of mine and as a teen I began asking him as many questions as possible and soaking up each answer like a sponge. He helped me understand that success doesn’t come without the grind, but if you stick with it the hard work definitely pays off. I decided that real estate was the path I wanted to pursue and with the encouragement of my family I joined the team at Coldwell Banker Supercity Realty and haven’t looked back since!
What were some obstacles you were faced with starting out?
The real estate industry is very much about networking and getting your name out there as much as possible. Starting out at such a young age, I didn’t have a past career or different networking circles to draw from so my main challenge was creating my sphere of influence. The majority of people I knew were still in university and a few years away from buying their first home. I knew I had to adopt a different strategy and that it wasn’t going to come easy, but I was ready to work. Having zero previous sales experience it took me awhile to understand the importance of networking and relationship development. I began to attend every event I possibly could and widened my sphere to friends of the family and relatives. After time, I established a great foundation of relationships and was able to move my business in the right direction.
What are some challenges that you still face today?
Definitely the number one challenge I still face today is my age. Since I am a younger agent, some people question my experience and knowledge of the industry. I have learned to not let this discourage me but instead use it as motivation to show my clients how passionate and committed I am in achieving the very best for them. Mariana (Mariana Cowan, Owner and Sales Consultant) has been a mentor to me from day one. Starting out in the industry at a very young age herself, she knows what work is involved in overcoming different obstacles and is always there to answer any questions I may have.
“Brett has the passion for the real estate industry. He relates to first time home buyers and has gained through our 90 day fast track program the wisdom and requirements to handle any real estate transaction that may come his way. The best thing we like in a young agent is knowing when to ask for help. Brett is that kind of agent. He does not hesitate to use the knowledge and experience around him to benefit his clients.” – Mariana Cowan
The main thing that I have learned since starting in the industry is that the challenge are worth it. It is extremely rewarding to know that at such a young age I have control over my successes and that growth is unlimited. It has taught me to be extremely self-disciplined and that hard work does pay off. I look forward to a successful career and I am ready to take on any other obstacles that come my way.
